Ali Bakhakh is a filmmaker and creative entrepreneur with roots in Iraq and Scotland. Raised in a challenging environment, Ali discovered his passion for creativity at an early age, using video creation as both a pastime and an escape. At just nine years old, he began creating simple videos, capturing moments with his friends. Ali’s passion for filmmaking took a more serious turn, when a mentor recognized his potential and invited him to work on a professional film set as a second assistant camera (AC). This experience sparked a deeper love for the craft and solidified his ambition to pursue filmmaking. From that point forward, Ali focused on honing his skills, developing a natural talent for editing before expanding into directing and leading projects. Ali’s leadership instincts led him to establish DSCVR, a media production company which led him to working with companies such as the UFC and ONE Championship. While his professional work thrives under DSCVR, Ali also pursues personal projects, such as directing a 22-person crew for a Coronation Street remake. Studying Film Production at the University of Salford has further shaped Ali’s approach, teaching him the complexity and competitiveness of the industry. Undeterred by the challenges, he uses these as motivation to improve with every project. Ali’s filmmaking style is simple yet effective, focusing on clear, cohesive storytelling without unnecessary complications. To date, Ali has directed seven projects, served as first assistant camera (1st AC) on ten productions, vision-mixed two, and script-supervised one. His proudest achievements include working for the UFC and establishing himself as a competent and confident director. Looking to the future, Ali envisions collaborating with major companies across all forms of media, continually pushing himself to excel in every challenge and leave his mark on the industry.
